Day 25: March 26th

Hiked 7.2 miles from Derrick Knob shelter to Double Spring Gap shelter.
Today was easy compared to most other days we hiked. We really needed it after yesterday and the day before.
We hiked through beautiful misty mountains - the forest was really pretty today. I was in a great mood too thanks to a good night's sleep and a beautiful hike! We originally planned to take 2 more easy/short distance hiking days to get to Newfound Gap/Gatlinburg, TN, but this weather combined with the rugged terrain, which is getting worse b/c the rain is making the trails muddy and slippery, is compelling us to push hard tomorrow and get off the trail fast!
In fact, Firewalker is planning to take a little detour tomorrow in order to avoid going over Clingman's Dome and he will take a path to the parking lot there then walk (or hitch a ride) on the road until he gets to Newfound Gap. So this is our final night on the trail - sad, but good. We are both ready to go back home.

I'm so glad you'll be home soon! The pictures you are taking should be in a coffee table book about the AT. I love your eye for photography
