Monday
We had been sleeping most of Sunday and until about 7 on Monday morning due to much fatigue and headache and high altitude adjustment. Fernando and Kristen arrived in the early afternoon and we all had a late lunch together. We then walked around the city a lot. Cusco was designed at least 500 years ago by the Incans. All the streets are cleverly designed with efficient water management. The Incan architecture is really evident here, along with the Spanish Colonial architecture too.
The city of Cusco is considered the capital of the Incan empire, although Lima is the capital of the country. From the air, one can see that Cusco is designed in a stylistic shape of a Puma. The Incans considered the Puma to be a sacred animal, the same is true with the Condor and the snake. The puma represents power and strength, the snake represents wisdom and the condor represents a connection to the heavens and the after-life.
We're still very tired and hoping the whole altitude thing will be better by the time we start our hike on Thursday.
