"Easy" 11 miles today. Lots of downhill, so easy cardio-wise, but killer on the knees and toes.
We lunched at Page Meadows, which was gorgeous. A participant and one of our guides, Ellen - chronological age 67, though I would have guessed 30 - decided to do some yoga poses and then some timed planks. They're real go-getters, and I love them!!
When we were almost to Granlibakken Ellen informed us all that we get to take SHOWERS (!) there, and there's a place to do LAUNDRY (!). And there'll be PIZZA (!) and SALAD (!)
We also got to use a pool and hot tub, etc as Granlibakken is a smallish resort in the mountains that is somehow connected with the Tahoe Rim Trail Association. We had a great time meeting with our trail angels who always bring our "re-supply" duffel bags and bring us soft drinks and/or wine and beer.
We pitched our tents on this big open area outside of the lodge and at the base of a ski lift chair. Later that evening, when we were heading back to our tents from the pool area, a security guard guy drove up to us and told us not to go down there because he just chased a mama bear and her cubs that way (off the lodge property and to the nearby forest) and that we should stay in this little tiny basic kitchen/lodge area, near our tents, instead. He came back later to spray the perimeter with a bear deterrent. We were pretty shaken up by this but were relieved that we (4girls) could stay inside. No more bear drama until 4:30am when she came back to raid a nearby dumpster. We were relatively safe inside the "lodge", though Ellen remained out in her tent, unshaken by any of the bear activity. She is a rock.
