Day 3: 15 miles to Big Meadow

Started out from Star Lake feeling so much better than yesterday. I took a sleep aid and got way more sleep than the previous night, which helps make everything better. The thing with day 3 though is that, unlike the clear sunny skies the day before, we woke up to rain and wind and had to break camp in a flurry. I was all discombobulated and stuffing things in all sorts of crazy pockets in my pack just to get packed up ASAP. By the time we left the rain had subsided but then it kept at it off and on for most of the morning. This had us all stopping to put on rain gear then stopping later to take it off when the rain clouds had vanished in order to manage our body temps. It was crazy how often the weather kept throwing curve balls at us. It reminded me of life and the curve balls it throws at us at times. In "the real world" we can manage our comfort all the time. Basically everything is available to us. If we are not the right temperature we can easily adjust it. If we are bored we can easily fix that. Out here, you have to learn to be comfortable with being uncomfortable, or at least adjust your attitude and learn to sit with the discomfort until you can solve it, which often isn't exactly possible.

We made it to camp at Big Meadows camp ground a little earlier than planned and the Trail Angels met us at the entrance and drove all of our backpacks down so we didn't have to walk with them on, which was only about 2/3 of a mile, but it was still a really nice break.
They also provided dinner for us: homemade turkey chili with rice and fresh tomatoes, guacamole, unions, olives, and a few other wonderful toppings. Plus they had beer and wine and I think there were soft drinks too. (I dunno-I only focused on the beer and wine). Oh, and there were ice cream sandwiches and RED VINES! (One of my very favorite candies.)  Fantastic meal, with fantastic people. :)
